Box arrived destroyed… But the bike miraculously survived
As you can see from the photos, this bike got hammered by UPS. The delivery driver somehow slid this thing onto my porch without even alerting my dogs, which speaks to me as saying she wanted to get the heck out of Dodge before I saw the damage and made her take it back to her truck. Needless to say, once I did see it after she was long gone, my jaw dropped at the sight of this horribly disfigured package and I seriously feared for the condition of my brand new R618. Parts inside the box had obviously fallen out of the huge hole, because once I got inside the box, there were numerous instances where someone had taped various items to damaged styrofoam pieces. Someone also used a lot of tape in a poor attempt to cover up one of the holes in the box. Notice also the little box that contains the adapter that powers the console. It was buried deep inside the big box and yet has a nice nick in the corner. It appears UPS workers were mad at the world for the effort it took to deliver this to me.I don’t know if Amazon actually looks at these reviews we write. I figure the wait between completion of the review and its posting is just so a bot can scan for f-bombs and such, and no human eyes actually see them. But in case I’m wrong, I hope Amazon decides they need to sit down with UPS and demand they take better care of the many heavy items UPS is paid millions of dollars a year to ship to Amazon customers. This is just ridiculous and happens far too often. To my pleasant surprise, however, my Nautilus R618 arrived in that annihilated box completely unharmed. I couldn’t even find a single scratch. I was unbelievably lucky and still feel like UPS needs to be spanked for their literal disdain towards the careful shipping of a 107lb package.Once I assured myself that all the pieces had arrived intact, I got set up to assemble this as per the very well written instructions. These are thoughtfully arranged and extremely easy to follow. All hardware and tools needed are on a thick square of shrink wrapped cardboard, and even include a few extra parts in case a washer or nut rolls off your hand and ends up beneath your 200lb sofa. Each step is nicely illustrated and I had no trouble at all assembling this bike. In fact, it was actually a joy to put together, if I may say so myself. It took me about 3 hours from start to finish, but I did go slow and deliberately took my time. I’d imagine it could be done in less time than this, however.I plugged it in after assembly was completed and answered the questions on the console. I then adjusted everything to fit me and went on my first ride. It was more than I hoped for and I do feel as though I definitely got my money’s worth. It is very smooth and quiet to ride, the gel bottom seat is comfortable to sit on, and the overall design and build are exactly as you’d expect for a top of the line recumbent bike. Some people are down on the Explore the World app, but I am using it on my daily rides and have had zero problems or issues. Also, my experience with the included Nautilus heart rate monitor has been satisfactory, and I see no need to go out and get an after market heart monitor. The included speakers are a low budget afterthought and probably sound worse than a cheap laptop’s speakers. And that fan? Well, it hardly moves enough air to dissipate human gas (from experience, unfortunately), and you’d be more likely to cool yourself off by waving your hand in front of your face. But these are my only knocks against this bike. It is otherwise a solid investment towards your health. In closing, UPS almost caused me untold grief with how this was delivered to me. What a nightmare it would have been to try and return a 107lb bike and hope it’s replacement arrived in better shape. But I give credit to Nautilus for a packing job that was good enough to protect this bike from the incompetence of UPS. And this review is for what was inside that destroyed box, which I rate a solid 5 stars. Go get you one…

5.0 out of 5 stars Great bike but you are taking a risk with the shipping
Reviewed in the United States on January 11, 2019
Since this review is for the bike itself, I am giving it 5 stars. The shipping process, however, would have been 1 star. I’ll go into more detail on that later in this review. The bike was easy to put together, but does require two people for some steps. Once it was assembled, I was able to move it across the room with thick carpet by myself, as the wheels are helpful and work well. In working through a few programs, this bike has everything I was looking for. I first started with the heart rate setting so that the resistance and level would adjust to get me to target heart rates. I also have used other programs of varying levels, depending on my mood. You can set the workout based on time you want to spend, calories you want to burn, or distance you want to go. Throughout the workout, you can see progress and make adjustments to make the workout easier or more difficult. I have used the fan during the workout and it is adjustable in direction and intensity, both up or down. At the highest setting, it provided just enough air to cool me off. Overall, I believe that this is a great price for what you get.
On the parts I would suggest improvements, the bottom seat is a little deep. I tend to have to sit further forward on the seat so that the seat does not impede my upper thighs when peddling. This is nothing major, but just a suggestion. Also, the seat does wobble a bit. I think there are some parts that come pre-assembled that I could tighten up; I just have not done the yet. Lastly, the heart rate monitors on the bars by the seat are not very sensitive. I find that I have to grip those bars with a lot of force to get a reading. This is not quite ideal when using the heat rate workout setting, as I have keep a lot of pressure throughout the workout.
Now, for the shipping from amazon. I saw some other reviews about damage during shipping, but I also saw this for a variety of bikes, so i selected the one I liked best and took a chance on shipping with amazon. Upon getting home, I discovered a badly damaged box a my front door. I brought it inside carefully and started to take inventory of the parts, since there were large holes in the box. All the parts were present, but the frame of the bike (the main part) was dented to the point that I could not install the wheels on the front, and the bl1ack paint was severely chipped. I immediately contacted Nautilus to see what they would recommend. Their customer service rep was very helpful and had me send him some photos of the damage so he could advise me on how to proceed. By looking at the photos, he concluded that this large dent was likely caused during shipping, as it had to have been dropped on the end of the box to create this damage. He advised that I contact amazon about a replacement bike. Given the condition of the box, I knew there was no way to ship this back in the original box, so i went to plan “b”. During this phone call, my husband came to assist me with assembly and decided to try to bend this dent out on his own. It took him about 15 minutes of banging it out with a hammer to finally get it pushed out enough to install the wheels. So, I now have a bike with some damage, but was willing to accept that to avoid the hassle of a return wand a second try on shipping. I would have been willing to pay a little extra for a better style of delivery for something this large and heavy. But I also think some of this blame falls on Nautilus for not providing more structure in their packaging, some wood or framing inside the box could have prevented this damage and would make the package more sturdy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Silenciosa, cómoda, buen diseño. Multiusuario. Muy pesada. Viene desarmada.
Reviewed in Mexico on April 12, 2023
